Shifting Focalization in the <i>Homeric Hymn to Hermes</i>: the Case of Hermes’ Cave
Abstract
The contradictory descriptions of Hermes’ cave reflect not multiple authorship but the poet’s successive focalization on the viewer of the moment, and they progress with the growth of Hermes’ identity as a god.
