Frankish ἁρμοσταί in Lucca? Reading Agathias <i>Hist.</i> 1.18.5
Abstract
Agathias’ mention of Φράγγων ἁρμοσταί in Lucca in 553 is unlikely for both historical and philological reasons: the emendation Γότθων seems advisable, especially in light of the archaizing term ἁρμοσταί.Downloads
